Evolving Activism: Are We Planting New Seeds Or Trying To Revive Rotten Fruit?

I woke up this morning to text messages from a heart broken, deeply upset friend sharing about the likelihood that Kavanaugh will be our next Supreme Court justice. I am disappointed, but certainly not shocked. Truthfully, I expected him to get elected because he is rotten fruit born of a rotten system.

What did surprise me was the fact that I got a text message about Kavanaugh because I’m not exactly political nor do I keep up with the news religiously. When I tell people, I don’t watch the news (now admittedly I do read news online periodically to stay abreast of things), some are surprised. But they never ask me why. Perhaps they assume because I’m one of those ‘spiritual people’ I just bury my head in the sand.

Evolving Activism

In truth, I’ve always cared deeply about the state of humanity and the planet. In my youth, I was extremely political and revolutionary in my thought. After living abroad, growing in my spirituality and my understanding, I have evolved and so has my concept of activism.

I believe the most revolutionary act we can take is to free and elevate our minds and spirits. That is why my work focuses on giving people tools to evolve their mind-body-spirit. To transform this system, we must operate from a higher level. One of my favorite quotes by Albert Einstein, “You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it.” Evolving our consciousness can be a form of spiritual activism.

All is Mind

Mystical wisdom and quantum physics alike allude to the fact that the way we keep this system (the world as we know it) in place is through our attention, our belief in it and our thoughts. All is mind. We co-create reality with our mind and energy. So, what are we creating if all our energy and thoughts are focused on a rotten system?

Have you ever had a piece of rotten fruit? There’s no saving it. It’s rotten. And if you keep it with the other fruit, it will cause the good fruit to rot faster. So how do we change a rotten system? Well one path is to try and change the system from the inside. Another is to expose the fact that it’s rotten. Both are valid and necessary approaches. Here’s another less traveled path.

Planting New Seeds

What about planting new seeds instead of solely trying to revive rotten fruit. We plant new seeds by elevating our consciousness. Our thoughts bear fruit. Fear bears fruit. Sexism and hate bear fruit. Joy, compassion, and love bear fruit. What type of fruit is being created by your thoughts?  our nation? The media?

What if we spent less time focused on fear, and more time being creative, compassionate, or loving. What innovative and transformation thoughts, solutions, visions, and new systems could that inspire? On this sad day, we surely need more inspired thoughts and visions.
