I’ve learned many lessons over the past five years while writing a memoir with my mother. The power of love is perhaps the most important one. Love can hold things together when it seems like everything is falling apart around you. It can shine a light in dark places. It can help you find hope when all seems lost. We titled our memoir, Love’s All That Makes Sense, in honor of the love that held my family together when faced with the challenges of trying to support my mother during her crisis times with schizophrenia. No matter how sick my mom got, I held onto my love for her and she held onto her love for me. It helped us to get through dark times and gave us the strength to choose something better for our lives.
